What is referred pain?

Referred pain in the upper arm is pain felt in the upper arm that originates from other areas of the body such as the neck or shoulder.

Physiotherapy for referred pain

A thorough examination with one of our specialised physiotherapists at Manchester Physio will understand the nature of your pain and help you make a full recovery and get you back to your everyday tasks.

An individualised treatment program will then be developed including short and long term goals to ensure you make the best possible recovery, as soon as possible. Physiotherapy treatment for referred pain may involve:
  • Joint mobilisation and manipulation of the affected joints causing the referred pain
  • Heat therapy
  • Soft tissue massage to relieve tight muscles groups
  • Stretching exercises to relieve pain and stiffness
  • Strengthening exercises to increase joint stability and to maximise potential with everyday activities
  • Postural advice
  • Ergonomic assessment
Physiotherapy treatment at Manchester Physio will help to relieve your pain so you can get back to everyday activities with confidence and success.
